〔縦の軸棒〕 a vertical shaft; a spindle; 【数】 〔グラフの〕 the axis of ordinates; the vertical [ordinate] axis.

●縦軸の座標 an ordinate.

●このグラフは縦軸が平均体重, 横軸が年齢を表している. In this graph the vertical axis shows average weight, and the horizontal axis (shows) age.

●縦軸に濃度を取る plot density on the vertical [ordinate] axis

・圧力を縦軸に取って温度に対する関係をグラフにする plot [graph] pressure as the ordinate against temperature as the abscissa; plot [graph] pressure against temperature

・横軸に時間, 縦軸に速度を取ってグラフを描く draw a graph with time as the abscissa and velocity as the ordinate.
